I mean, there was the Alan Wake TV show trailer you see at the University in the opening minutes of the game, Aiden Gillen’s character is wearing an Old Gods of Asgard tribute band t-shirt and Dominic Monaghan’s character wears a Night Springs t-shirt, there’s a full whiteboard where a professor has been teaching about Alan Wake and Remedy was telling us about Altered World Events and the AWE DLC for Control years before it ever happened, the Sudden Stop books written by Max Payne alter Alex Casey, and more. Also the only story about time travel that I’ve seen since Primer that really put the work in as far as how everything would actually happen and wasn’t afraid to tell a story about multiple people going backwards and forwards through time, trying to stop events while also becoming the cause of them.Īnd all the Alan Wake and Max Payne references were great. Was nice to see the great Lance Reddick (RIP) as well as Aiden Gillen, Shawn Ashmore, and Courtney Hope. In true Remedy fashion, all the little memos and emails and letters were fascinating to read and added so much to the narrative that I’d have otherwise missed, and I loved the full motion video sequences with Hollywood actors and production quality (and really good cinematography too, I might add). I just spent a couple dozen hours doing two playthroughs of Quantum Break to see all the various story junctions play out and get the 1000/1000.
